“Do it for you.”
That’s all I’m going to say.
Not to please other people. Not to be acceptable to other people.
Not because other people can’t handle you as you are. Or can’t handle the truth of what you’ve been through. Or can’t deal with the effects of your trauma.
These are terrible reasons to do it.
Do it because you deserve more than this.
Do it because it matters to you.
For no other reason. For nobody else.
Do it only for you.
Yes! It’s ok to do something for you. And when you do, it will inspire other trauma survivors to follow your example. The lesson I’m still learning is that other people need not define you. Frankly, some of them aren’t worth our time. Be bold. Be strong!

It takes such a long time to really believe that other people need not define us – and to choose who we’ll allow to shape, and who we won’t allow to shape and define us.

I get the not letting others define us part
But what exactly are we doing for us?

It’s impossible to please everyone, and once you start trying, you’ll quickly become entangled mess of negative emotions.

So true. You’ll never be able to do it, you will feel like you’re being pulled in all directions, and you will constantly feel like a failure. Thanks for taking the time to add this seekingdivineperspective
