It’s OK if you thought you were over it, but then it hits you all over again.
It’s OK if, sometimes, you still fall apart, even if you thought you were starting to heal.
Trauma is like that.
The shock may start to fade –
But the memories still haunt you.
You’re not completely free.
This doesn’t mean you’re weak.
It’s a battle like no other.
Recovery is messy, and there isn’t a timeline
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Sadly, you still have ignorant people who like to point a finger. But still, you must take your time. Great post!

So true. I have learned that self care is important in healing from my trauma; that I need to heal at my pace, not according to the expectations of others. Thanks for this post.

Some recovery last a lifetime. I think I’m over my father’s suicide and then something triggers a memory and I’m back there at the funeral. It’s so hard to have a closed casket funeral, you never really say goodbye.

I don’t think we ever really get over a death, and especially a traumatic death like a suicide. Like you say, we never have a chance to say goodbye and that leaves an unmet longing in our heart ❤️

There are so many parts to healing trauma of any kind, you have to learn to accept each part for what it was and bring closure to the pain. Slowly you piece the trauma together and heal it.

You are so right. It is a very difficult thing to process and heal from. Not easy at all to understand since the subconscious mind takes over and seems to do its own thing. It requires such self-compassion and patience. Thanks for adding your thoughts here.

Thank you for saying there is no definitive time line for recovery from trauma. Each of us is a unique person with a one-of-a-kind history. Blessings.

Yes, that’s so true. It’s important to take the pressure off ourselves and allow our healing to take whatever time it takes. Thanks for reading and commenting 😊
