Quote of the Day

“Become intimate with your fears. Listen to them. Sit cross-legged. Give them your undivided attention. Offer them comfort. Offer them rest.”

– Nayyirah Waheed

Our fears don’t go away.

We can’t just push them down inside.

Pretending they’re not there is never going to work for long.

They always re-emerge.

They keep resurfacing again.

They follow us around

They won’t be silenced or snuffed out.

So why not turn and face them.

Let them speak up.

Say their piece.

Remember: They’re just worries.

Red alerts.

They’re trying to protect you.

They don’t want you to be harmed

So let them know they matter.

Take them seriously.

And as you start to do this, you’ll experience a peace.

Their message may be valid and the danger might be real.

But now that you have faced them, you’re not fighting with yourself.

You’re in this thing together.

And together you are strong.

    • Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Eliza. It is scary listening to our fears, and choosing to embrace them rather than run from them. My instinct is always to close my ears and run from them. But this approach above is definitely more liberating and empowering 💕

    • I think it’s good to face our fears but I’m not sure how easy it is to drive them away permanently. When we familiarize ourselves with our fears we learn how to answer them in an effective way …. but they may still rear their head again and again in the future. However, if we have made friends with these fears, we know what to say to comfort and calm them, at least for now. I think it’s the same whether you are a Christian or not.

      • Fear itself is a spirit and it is not one that we should play with. I have battled with fear most of my life, but thank God He taught me how to overcome it.

    • Yes. I often feel like that too. I find they’re more tormenting if they’re rumbling away just beneath the surface but calling them by name and facing them head on helps remove some of their power. Thanks for the comment ❤️

    • Thank you. I’m glad the quote and the message brought a degree of solace. Life is often hard and our fears can feel so powerful. They keep niggling away noisily in the background. I hope you find peace for your day. Thank you for all the inspiration and comfort you pass on to me and others through your blog. God bless 🙂
